C-SPAN Founder to Receive Archives and History Award in Albany

| ALBANY – C-SPAN founder and CEO Brian Lamb will be presented with the
NYS Archives Partnership Trust’s first-ever Empire State Archives
and History Award on Monday, October 24, 2005 at 7:30 PM at The Egg, Center
for the Performing Arts, Empire State Plaza in Albany. The award recognizes
Lamb’s contributions to our society’s understanding and use of history.
The event, sponsored by Time Warner Cable and M&T Bank, is free and open
to the public.

| ALBANY -- The Board of Regents and the New York State Archives have selected Lauren Koenig, a ninth grade student from Solomon Schechter High School in Glen Cove as the recipient of the 2005 Laura and Robert Chodos Award for Excellence in Student Research Using Historical Records, Grades 9-12. The award is named for Regent Emerita Laura Chodos and her husband Dr. Robert Chodos, who created an endowment for the award as a way to encourage the educational uses of historical records.

provided in Governor Pataki's 2005-2006 budget to hundreds of local governments
and community organizations across the state. These awards are intended to help

State Archives and State Library Complete National Save America's Treasures Grant Campaign

| ALBANY -- The New York State Archives and the New York State Library have
completed the private match for the National Park Service’s and the National
Trust for Historic Preservation’s Save America’s Treasures grant
for conservation of New York State’s Revolutionary War treasures. According
to Save America’s Treasures program officials, the grant was
awarded to the state in recognition of the fact that the documents and artifacts
included within the state’s collections are of national importance and
must be conserved for future generations.

a coveted Nori from the Albany Ad Club Association of Communications Professionals,
the prestigious Hamer-Kegan Award from the Society of American Archivists, and

New York Council for the Humanities, a state program of the National Endowment

Origins of Baseball's Enduring Myth Revealed in Archives Magazine

| ALBANY - The letter that helped to create one of baseball's most enduring myths - that Abner Doubleday invented the game in Cooperstown, New York - was written in 1905 by a mining engineer from Colorado, according to an article by Mark McGuire in the Spring issue of New York Archives magazine. The letter was discovered by Jim Gates, library director at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, in the bottom of a trunk.
