ALBANY -- The Board of Regents and the New York State Archives have selected the Canajoharie Library and Art Gallery to receive the 2003 Annual Archives Award for Program Excellence in a Historical Records Repository.
The award will be presented to Canajoharie Library and Art Gallery Curator Jim Crawford at a luncheon ceremony at the State Education Building in Albany on November 13, 2003.
The award commends both the Canajoharie Library and Crawford for taking the initiative to save the history of the textile and food processing industries in Fulton and Montgomery Counties. The award also recognizes Canajoharie Library and Art Gallery's efforts to make people more aware of the region's rich industrial history.
These efforts include the publication of a guide to over seventy collections related to the textile and food processing industries, installation of a permanent exhibition on the Beech-Nut Company, and creation of programs for schoolchildren that get them excited about history.
Previous recipients of this annual award include the Foundation of the Nurses Association of New York State (2000), Crandall Public Library's Center for Folklife, History, and Cultural Programs (2001), and Hofstra University Archives (2002).
