ALBANY – Are you interested in tracing your family history, but are not sure how to get started? Some of the answers can be found by attending The Central New York Family History Conference, a free, day-long series of presentations on doing family history research on Saturday, April 22nd in Liverpool.
The conference will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Bear Road, between Buckley & Taft Roads in Liverpool from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM and is sponsored by Onondaga County Clerk M. Ann Ciarpelli in cooperation with the New York State Archives.
The Central New York Family History Conference will offer hour-long sessions led by historians, archivists, and genealogy experts. Session topics include African-American, Polish, Scottish, early New York Dutch, and French Huguenot family research; using local government records to track down your ancestors; making the Internet a key genealogy tool; developing your own genealogical website; preserving family records in digital format; deciphering Germanic records; and much more.
"This conference has something for everyone – both the novice and the more experienced researcher," said Kent Stuetz, one of the organizers of the event. "It’s a gathering of some very knowledgeable people who can be helpful to anyone interested in learning how to research the history of their family."
To register for the conference, call the State Archives Regional Advisory Office at (315) 793-2780 or email drusso@mail.nysed.gov.
