ALBANY -- New York State Archivist Christine W. Ward has received the Distinguished Public Service Award from the College of Computing and Information at the University at Albany.
Ms. Ward leads one of the premier state archives in the nation overseeing services to all New Yorkers including 4300 local governments, 75 state agencies and 3000 community organizations. Under her leadership, the State Archives facility has been completely renovated to include state-of-the-art storage for its 200 million records and modern public service space, and it has received nearly $2 million in federal grants for preservation and access work. Through Ms. Ward's advocacy efforts, the highly successful Local Government Records program became permanent. She is co-author of Manual on Governors' Records to be published by the National Governors' Association later this year.
Ms. Ward received a bachelor's degree in history from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York and a master's degree in Library Science from the University at Albany.
