ALBANY -- The Board of Regents and the New York State Archives have selected the New York State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) to receive the 2006 Annual Archives Award for Excellence in State Agency Records Management.
The award will be presented to Director John R. Gibb and Records Management Officer Thomas Rinaldi at a luncheon ceremony at the State Education Building in Albany on October 23, 2006.
The award recognizes SEMO for an outstanding records management program that now serves as a model for other state agencies. It commends SEMO for identifying and scheduling forty records series in its eleven program units, covering nearly 2,000 cubic feet of records and including eleven series of records indicated for permanent preservation in the State Archives. The latter includes important documentation of the agency's responses to various disasters occurring in the state, including its response and follow up to the destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
Previous recipients of this annual award include the New York State Department of Health (2000), New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (2001), New York State Office of the Attorney General (2002), Binghamton University (2003), New York State Insurance Department (2004), and the New York State Department of Civil Service (2005).
