The Board of Regents and the New York State Archives have selected the Huguenot Historical Society in New Paltz to receive the 2006 Annual Archives Award for Program Excellence in a Historical Records Repository.
The award will be presented to Executive Director Eric Roth and Leslie LeFevre-Stratton at a luncheon ceremony at the State Education Building in Albany on October 23, 2006.
The award commends the Huguenot Historical Society for developing an outstanding archival program that is an integral part of the society’s mission to preserve and interpret the history of the Huguenot, Dutch, and allied families who settled New Paltz and surrounding communities. The award recognizes that when the society began to make the transition from a "members only" institution managed by enthusiasts to a professionally run organization in 1997, one of its early steps was to hire an archivist. As a result, the society now boasts well organized, well protected, and increasingly accessible archives.
The annual Archives Awards program recognizes outstanding efforts in archives and records management work in New York State by a broad range of individuals and organizations. A complete list of this year's award recipients follows:
