The Board of Regents and the New York State Archives have selected Saratoga County to receive the 2006 William H. Kelly Annual Archives Award for Excellence in Local Government Archival Program Development.
The award will be presented to County Executive David A. Wickerham and County Clerk Kathleen Marchione at a luncheon ceremony at the State Education Building in Albany on October 23, 2006. The award is named for William H. Kelly, the former Mayor of Asharoken in Suffolk County, who has been a tireless champion for strengthening local government archival and records management programs.
This award recognizes Saratoga County for working tirelessly to protect and promote its rich collection of historical records and praises the county’s many employees for their devotion to the preservation and promotion of historical records. The Kelly award also commends Ms. Marchione’s efforts in microfilming all court records from 1800 through 1974, and for digitizing them to increase access. It also recognizes her outreach efforts that bring information about the archival holdings in Saratoga County to the public.
Previous recipients of this annual award include Chautauqua County (2000), Oswego County (2001), Genesee County (2002), Ulster County (2003), Hudson River Park Trust (2004), and the Town of Victor (2005).
