09/26/2006   Town of Cheektowaga To Receive State Archives Award

The Board of Regents and the New York State Archives have selected the Town of Cheektowaga in Erie County to receive the 2006 Cheryl Steinbach Annual Archives Award for Excellence in Local Government Records Management.

The award will be presented to Town Clerk Mary Holtz and Lisa-Marie Bolognese at a luncheon ceremony at the State Education Building in Albany on October 23, 2006. The award is named for the late Cheryl Steinbach, Chautauqua Town Clerk, who was a strong advocate for strengthening local government archival and records management programs.

The award recognizes Cheektowaga for its exceptional commitment to an active and robust records management program as demonstrated in the establishment of a full-time records management position and its plans for a new records and archives research center. The award also commends the town for developing a records management procedure manual and for keeping the town’s legislative body fully informed of the importance of sound records management.

Previous recipients of this annual award include Rockland County (2000), the City of Troy (2001), Corning Community College (2002), Niagara County (2003), Village of Dexter (2004), and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County (2005).
