Albany, NY -- The New York State Archives Partnership Trust will honor Pulitzer Prize winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin for her work to advance history on Tuesday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. at The Egg, Center for the Performing Arts in Albany.

The more than hour-long program will feature a probing conversation between Goodwin and nationally prominent Lincoln Scholar Harold Holzer on Goodwin's life, work and passion for history. At the conclusion of the event, Goodwin will be presented with the Empire State Archives and History Award, an award created by the Archives Partnership Trust in 2005 to recognize prominent national figures for their contributions to our society’s understanding and use of history.

Currently a professor of history and government at Harvard University, she is probably best known for her courses on the American presidency. In addition to her distinguished teaching resume, her career experience includes service as an assistant to President Lyndon Johnson during his last year in the White House and later collaboration with President Johnson on the preparation of his memoirs.

Her award winning writings include some of the most important books on history published in our time, on subjects including: Abraham Lincoln, Lyndon Johnson, Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt (a Pulitzer Prize winner), the Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys, and the Brooklyn Dodgers. According to New York State Archivist and Chief Executive Officer of the Archives Partnership Trust Christine Ward, the Empire State Archives and History Award has acknowledged a range of individuals for their unique contributions to our understanding of the past. "Through our recognition of C-SPAN CEO founder Brian Lamb and Actor Sam Waterson for their efforts to support history as non-historians, the Archives Partnership Trust has endeavored to demonstrate that history is central to everything we do and its use is frequently fostered by people not traditionally associated with the field. This year's selection of historian and Pulitzer Prize winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin gives us a different opportunity to pay tribute to one of America's leading historians for some of the most important contributions in history made in the late 20th and now 21st centuries. By bestowing this award, the Archives Partnership Trust honors Ms. Goodwin for her transformational role in helping to promote understanding of this nation’s past,” Ward said.
