10/08/2007   Schenectady County Historical Society Wins State Archives Award

Albany, NY -- The Board of Regents and the New York State Archives have selected the Schenectady County Historical Society to receive the 2007 Annual Archives Award for Program Excellence in a Historical Records Repository.

The award will be presented to Katherine Chansky and Cynthia Seacord at a luncheon ceremony at the State Education Building in Albany on October 22, 2007.

The award commends Schenectady County Historical Society for its outstanding archival program that contributes significantly to our understanding of the history of the area. The award recognizes that over the past several years, the historical society has developed professional procedures and policies and hired a trained librarian/archivist. The award also commends the historical society for its public programs, outreach to educators, and extraordinary generosity to the City History Center where the society was instrumental in saving important historical records.

The annual Archives Awards program recognizes outstanding efforts in archives and records management work in New York State by a broad range of individuals and organizations. A complete list of this year’s award recipients follows:
