Albany, NY -- The Board of Regents and the New York State Archives have selected Suffolk County to receive the 2007 William H. Kelly Annual Archives Award for Excellence in Local Government Archival Program Development.
The award will be presented to County Clerk Judith Pascale and County Archivist Sharon Pullen at a luncheon ceremony at the State Education Building in Albany on October 22, 2007. The award is named for William H. Kelly, the Mayor of Asharoken in Suffolk County, who has been a tireless champion for strengthening local government archival and records management programs.
This award recognizes Suffolk County for its impressive and comprehensive archival program that includes excellent storage in climate-controlled facilities, an aggressive program of digitizing and microfilming, an award winning website and a vigorous outreach program – all managed for a professional archivist. The award commends the county for the significant investment it has made in the program that has resulted in its being a model for others around the state.
Previous recipients of this annual award include Chautauqua County (2000), Oswego County (2001), Genesee County (2002), Ulster County (2003), Hudson River Park Trust (2004), Town of Victor (2005), and Saratoga County (2006).
