The Board of Regents and the New York State Archives have selected the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation to receive the 2008 William H. Kelly Annual Archives Award for Excellence in Local Government Archival Program Development.
The award will be presented to Andrew H. Kimball, President and Chief Executive Officer, and Elliot Matz, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, at a luncheon ceremony at the State Education Building in Albany on October 20, 2008.The award is named for William H. Kelly, the Mayor of Asharoken in Suffolk County, who has been a tireless champion for strengthening local government archival and records management programs.
This award recognizes the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation for its impressive and comprehensive archival program that cares for over 31,000 historical architectural and engineering drawings that date to 1856, and for providing access to this extraordinary collection through exhibits, school programs, publications, and the Internet.
Previous recipients of this annual award include Chautauqua County (2000), Oswego County (2001), Genesee County (2002), Ulster County (2003), Hudson River Park Trust (2004), Town of Victor (2005), Saratoga County (2006), and Suffolk County (2007).
