Title Shirley M. Hufstedler collection, 1979-1981 Description The collection consists of records of Shirley Hufstedler as Secretary of Education from 1977-1981. Includes memoranda, correspondence, reports, speeches, and briefing materials. Subject files contain information on the creation, operation, and regulation of the Dept. of Education; presidential campaigns; and Dept. briefings. Lau files deal with the legal case regarding the rights of access to education for non-English speaking or bilingual Americans.

Title Robert H. Beecher papers, 1941-1987 Dept/Division Schomberg Center for Research in Black Culture (http://www.nypl.org/research/sc/sc.html) Description Personal papers, correspondence, writings and research materials relating to education in the Panama Canal Zone and the education of minorities in the United States. Included are papers documenting Beecher's career as a New York City school teacher and community coordinator for school district 12 in the Bronx. Also included are transcripts of interviews recorded in 1976-1977 with black political figures from Central Brooklyn.

Title Kwame and Mary McDonald papers, 1967-1989 Description Files document Kwame McDonald's work as Exec. Dir. of the Minnesota State Comm Against Discrimination (1961-1965) and the Governor's Council on Youth (1983-1987), and contain materials on minority issues confronting St. Paul's Summit-University Neighborhood.

Title Dorwatha Adderley papers, 1975-1998 Description Genealogical information, correspondence, speeches, minutes, newsletters, photographs, and audio-visual materials detailing Adderley's family life and activities as principal of Ascension School, the largest multi-racial Roman Catholic grade school (K-8) in Minneapolis, and as cocordinator of Parent Choice Advocates, a group organized to train citizens to lobby for financial assistance to low and middle income parents of non-public school children.

Wisconsin Historical Society
Title Haubrich, Vernon F. Desegregation study papers, 1967-1973 Description Papers entirely concerning a national research project (1967-1971) on the educational, sociological, and economic factors that contributed to successful elementary school desegregation. Included are achievement test forms completed by individual students; attitudinal questionnaires completed by teachers, counselors, and principals; and recorded interviews (some in transcribed form). Also included are taped interviews of students.

Title Joint Committee on Education in Wisconsin. Records, 1934-1957 Description Papers of a non-profit organization of citizens' groups concerned with the quality of education in Wisconsin primarily in relation to taxation and finance of schools, rural school problems, and educational legislation. Included are organizational materials, correspondence, minutes, workshop materials, publications, and clippings.

Title Wisconsin Association of School Boards. Records, 1942-1961 Description Papers of a lobbying organization relating to such topics as state and federal aid to education, legislation, fiscal responsibility of school boards, public relations, and teacher welfare; including by-laws of the Association, minutes of directors' meetings and conventions, correspondence, financial statements, membership lists, informational reports on teacher salaries and other education topics, and treasurers' reports.
