Administrative History
The Civil Rights Bureau enforces laws to protect New Yorkers from discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, marital status, sexual orientation, military status, source of income, or disability. Among its many functions, the bureau investigates and prosecutes alleged discrimination in areas such as employment, housing, credit, and education, and educates the public about civil rights issues.
The New York State Archives is part of the Office of Cultural Education, an office of the New York State Education Department.
