Summary:
The Temporary State Commission on the Water Supply Needs of Southeastern New York was created in 1969. Its mandate was to study the future water supply needs of the southeastern portion of the state; the relationship of these needs to the water resources available; alternative methods for constructing, financing, and administering the needed water supply facilities; and to make recommendations on how to meet future water needs. Administrative History

The Temporary State Commission on the Water Supply Needs of Southeastern New York was created by Chapter 593 of the Laws of 1969. Its mandate was to study the future water supply needs of the southeastern portion of the state, including New York City and Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess counties; the relationship of these needs to the water resources available; alternative methods for constructing, financing and administering the needed water supply facilities; and to make specific recommendations on how to meet future water needs.

E. Virgil Conway was chairman. The commission's first year report was published in 1971. Amendments were passed in 1970 (Chapter 464) and 1974 (Chapters 603 and 992) to continue the commission's existence. Final program recommendations to the legislature were published in 1975.
