Scope and Content Note

This series consists of daily appointment schedules for Governor Hugh Carey from the last month of his first term through the inauguration of his successor, Mario M. Cuomo, and mimeographed copies of Governor W. Averell Harriman's daily schedules. The governors' staffs prepared these to help the governors and themselves track and prepare for each day's activities.

13690-83, Governor Carey's schedules: One typed sheet for each day, usually entitled "Private Schedule - Governor Hugh L. Carey," provides the day and date and the following information for each event: time; type or nature of event; location; if a meeting, names of persons with whom the governor will meet; subject of meeting; and name and phone number of contact person (sometimes).

Events scheduled include: meetings with local, state, and national officials or with the governor's staff; speeches; hearings; bill signings; press conferences and interviews; photo sessions; taping of shows; ceremonial occasions (e.g. groundbreakings); and parties and receptions. Occasionally filed with the daily schedules are memoranda or briefing notes from the governor's staff providing additional background information on the location or subject of the meeting or other event.

13690-07, Governor Harriman's schedules: Some of the schedules are tentative, and may include pencil notations and changes. The schedules usually provide the date, time, name, and location of the event, as well as notes regarding the formality of the event and the speakers. There is some correspondence and memoranda regarding the events as well.
