Scope and Content Note

This series contains correspondence, ephemera, reports, newspaper articles and financial records concerning statewide observances held in 1926, 1927, and 1929 of events of 1776, 1777, and 1779.

13912-78: This accretion consists of correspondence of State Historian Alexander C. Flick regarding the planning for and execution of observances, including the allocation of state funds, coordination of local activities, and preparation of souvenir programs and pamphlets. Other records include copies of souvenir programs, posters, and news releases; scripts of pageants presented at observances; reports and minutes of meetings of the Executive Committee on the Observance of the 150th Anniversary of the American Revolution, appointed by the Commissioner of Education in 1925; newspaper clippings about observance ceremonies; and bills and vouchers submitted to the state for compensation for sesquicentennial observances.

There are also files containing similar materials for the following historical observances: Albany Tercentenary (1924); Battle of Plattsburgh Centennial (1914); Battle of Sodus Point Memorial Dedication (1927); Cooperstown Baseball Centennial (1939); and Thaddeus Kosciuszko Memorial Dedication (1936).

13912-83: This accretion contains the following materials: correspondence concerning the Committee on the 150th Anniversary of the American Revolution formed by the New York State Historical Association under authority granted by the Legislature in 1923; responses to questionnaires sent by the State Historian to records repositories requesting information on papers of the leaders of the Sullivan-Clinton Campaign of 1779; notes and chronology for a history of the Sullivan Clinton Campaign; partial draft manuscript and notes for a proposed publication about New York's observance of the American Revolution sesquicentennial (never published); and notes, correspondence, clippings, and drafts for a history of the American flag.

13912-00: This accretion consists primarily of newspaper clippings relating to observance ceremonies held throughout the state commemorating the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the American Revolution.
