Scope and Content Note
This series consists of a bound register of letters received by the Civil Service Commission.
Each entry contains the following information: the date the correspondence was received; the correspondent's name, title or position (if a public official) or city or town of residence (if a private citizen); and a one-phrase or sentence synopsis of the correspondence's content (e.g. "Suggested changes in Civil Service Rules and Regulations," "Relative to examination for Meat and Milk Inspector"). The overwhelming majority of entries are for correspondence from public officials or institutions concerning appointments, certification of lists, the transmittal of papers or reports, examinations, classification and other routine civil service matters.
