Administrative History

The following legislation affected the acquisition of property and land to be used for the South Mall project site: Chapter 572 of the Laws of 1947 (Highway Law, Section 30), which authorized the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works to acquire property in Albany County for the construction of state buildings thereon; Chapter 319 of the Laws of 1961, which created the Temporary State Commission on the Capital City to cooperate with local officials and groups in developing recommendations for a realistic and fiscally sound program for the rehabilitation of the City of Albany; and Chapter 205 of the Laws of 1962 (Public Works Law, Section 8a), which enabled the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works to enter into agreements with other state entities in regards to lands or properties acquired for state purposes in the City of Albany, based on the recommendations of the Temporary State Commission on the Capital City.
