Scope and Content Note

The bulk of the series consists of photographs depicting arts events (performances, exhibitions, and other activities) relating to or sponsored by the New York State Council on the Arts. A wide variety of events are depicted, including poetry readings; theatre, dance, and musical performances; art workshops; lectures; and craft demonstrations. Subjects are typically performers, audience groups, or workshop participants, as well as new architecture and architectural preservation projects.

The photographs are primarily black and white, measuring 8 x 10 inches. Information accompanying each photograph usually includes date, location, identity of individual or group, and name of work performed.
