Administrative History
The board of trustees was established in 1911 (Chapter 440) to manage and preserve the Schuyler Mansion, home of General Philip Schuyler, for the state, and to collect "furniture, relics, mementoes and records" for display and preservation in the Mansion.
Scope and Content Note
This series contains correspondence, minutes of meetings of the board of trustees, by-laws of the board, a copy of an inventory of General Philip Schuyler's estate, and a few clippings. Most of the records are correspondence of the president of the board with other members of the board, heirs of Philip Schuyler, private citizens, and the state architect.
The subjects of this correspondence include: physical condition of the Schuyler Mansion; recommended renovations; location and ownership of Schuyler artifacts and papers; and acquisition of furnishings and artifacts for display in the Mansion.
Custodial History
Originally received by the State Library in 1951 from H.L.K. Shaw. Transferred to State Archives in 1978 as old collection #57, accession number -52.
