Scope and Content Note
Unpublished papers of Peter Gansevoort, Revolutionary War officer and later brigadier general in the United States Army.
An initial volume of papers covering the years 1763-1783 was typeset and printed in galleys (168 sheets). The first 81 sheets of galleys were also printed as page proofs. This proposed publication contained transcripts of letters to and from Peter Gansevoort pertaining to his military career, and occasional other related documents.
Included in typescript or manuscript, but never typeset, are the following: list of major footnotes prepared; list of Gansevoort papers in the Proceedings of the Provincial Congress; lists of maps and illustrations; annotated chronological and alphabetical list of Gansevoort documents; typescript of documents not used; typescript of documents dated 1784-1818 and intended for a subsequent volume; and typed copy of Orderly Book of General Peter Gansevoort, 1793-1809. This publication was not completed due to lack of funds.
