Scope and Content Note

Incoming correspondence to John M. Clarke, State Museum director and State Geologist (1904-1925), and State Paleontologist (1898-1925).

One folder contains letters dated 1908 congratulating Clarke on the publication of his monograph, "Early Devonic History of New York and Northeastern North America," Museum Memoir 9, and on his receipt of the Hayden Memorial Gold Medal. The other folder contains correspondence from Canadians and concerns his trips to and research on the geology and paleontology of the Gaspé Peninsula, Quebec, that provided the basis for the above named monograph.
