Administrative History

The Constitutional Ball was an event held at Empire State Plaza in Albany on May 25, 1977, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of New York State, as dated from New York's first state constitution in 1777. Four of the five living governors at the time (Hugh Carey, Malcolm Wilson, Nelson Rockefeller, and Averell Harriman) attended the event. Entertainers Kitty Carlisle Hart and Tony Randall emceed the festivities, and prominent performances were given by the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre and the Duke Ellington Orchestra.
