Summary:
The State Study Commission for New York City was created by Chapter 413 of the Laws of 1971 for the purpose of attaining efficiency, economy, and improvement in the operation of city government. This accretion contains a variety of records collected or created by the commission during its study, including copies of contracts; proposals; bills; testimony; expenditures and appropriations; newspaper clippings; financial information for municipal agencies studied; and press releases.

Scope and Content Note

A0566-98: This accretion contains a variety of records collected or created by the commission during their study. Types of records include copies of contracts; proposals; bills; testimony; expenditures and appropriations; newspaper clippings; financial information for municipal agencies studied; and press releases. Also included are materials concerning the finances of the commission, including budget requests and estimated expenditures.

Other material includes preliminary prospectuses for commission task forces on sanitation, narcotics control, environmental protection, health and hospitals, housing and community development, criminal justice, welfare, service productivity, jurisdiction and structure of city government, and higher education. Also included are statements, transcripts, and memoranda of city, state, and federal officials to the commission concerning proposals to decentralize the city government.

A0566-98: These records were transferred to the State Archives in accordance with Records Disposition Authorization number 16520, which superseded 13126. Records were apparently transferred to the Archives in 1985.
