Administrative History

This was one of several regional transportation studies undertaken by the state in compliance with the U.S. Federal Aid Highways Act of 1962. The act stated that federal aid for transportation projects in urban areas of over 50,000 people would be denied unless the projects were based on comprehensive transportation planning developed by the state and community by July 1, 1965. For the Capital District study, the Department of Public Works created a policy committee and contracted for aerial photographs and base maps.

Scope and Content Note

These are 18" x 18" aerial photographs (scale 1:48,000) of Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and the Upper Hudson region taken in April and May, 1963 for the Capital District Transportation Study. Roads, bodies of water, plots of land, buildings, and trees are visible on these photographs.

Eight sheets done to a scale of 1:126,000 function as indexing maps. The eight sheets each contain contact prints of a number of aerial photographs juxtaposed (as a mosaic) to give a much broader aerial view than the individual photographs.
