Arrangement
Documents and papers dating from before establishment of the comptroller's office in 1797 have been segregated.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of a variety of documents from the Comptroller's Office, mostly routine receipts, accounts, affidavits, lists, and other ephemeral items, some unidentifiable. None of them form a continuous series.
Individual items of interest include: anonymous letter discussing "the Cause of the great Arrear of His Majesties Quitt Rents in this Province," n.d. (ca. 1765?); two warrants to the Treasurer, signed by Samuel Jones, first Comptroller, 1797, with clear impressions of his seal; survey map of lot no. 25, Banyar and Company Patent, 1803; account of books sold at auction, Albany, October 11, 1836, giving titles; bills for household furniture purchased, 1841 and n.d.; itemized account of bills presented by E. Mack, Printer to the Senate, 1844; copy of judge's order and evidence, Suffolk County Court, in matter of salvage and expenses of nine barrels of brandy and one barrel of gin, wrecked property, 1848; and statement of salaries of clerks in the several state offices, 1848.
