Summary:
This volume contains monthly totals of balances of canal money in various banks throughout New York State. Each monthly entry provides the name of the bank; amounts on loan and at what percent interest; amount on deposit and the amount remaining in each bank. An accretion consists of two folio sized volumes regarding the balances of banks that held Erie Canal fund monies.

Scope and Content Note

This series comprises seventeen pages of a volume that contains three other series. These pages contain monthly totals of balances of canal money in various banks throughout New York State. Each monthly entry provides the name of the bank; amounts on loan and at what percent interest; amount on deposit and the amount remaining in each bank. These statements were kept by the comptroller who was also a member of the Commissioners of the Canal Fund.

A1096-06: This accretion consists of two folio sized volumes regarding the balances of banks that held Erie Canal fund monies. The first book provides information dating from 1817-1824 regarding funds for loans executed by the Canal Commission for the Erie Canal. The second book includes balances in banks relating to canal investments from 1834-1844. Also included are loan certificates and a warranty deed for a house from 1877 for New York State.

Custodial History

A1096-06: These records were transferred to the State Archives by the State Library sometime in 1978 but became estranged from the original accession for some unknown reason until they were identified and accessioned as part of the 11th floor renovation project.
