Summary:
Inventories of moveable property were submitted annually to the Comptroller (later, the Canal Auditor) by the superintendents of repairs, toll collectors, and weigh masters. The superintendents' inventories list materials, tools, and machinery on hand and include value, condition, and whether bought in previous year. Toll keepers and weigh master inventories list office furniture, books of canal laws and regulations, other books and circulars, and letters of instruction kept in the office.

Scope and Content Note

Inventories of moveable property were submitted annually to the Comptroller (later, the Canal Auditor) by the superintendents of repairs, toll collectors, and weigh masters.

The superintendents' inventories list materials (stone, lumber, iron, etc.), tools, and machinery on hand January 1st, telling value, condition, and whether bought in previous year for each item. The inventories of toll keepers and weigh masters use the same format, listing office furniture, books of canal laws and regulations, other books and circulars, and letters of instruction kept in the office.
