Scope and Content Note

Series consists of the prison agent's monthly estimates of money required for payroll, maintenance of prisoners, operation of the prison iron works, and other purposes, all itemized on separate schedules; abstracts of vouchers submitted to the Comptroller for audit, accompanied by original receipted vouchers; and inventories of prison property, including the iron works. Construction of the prison was authorized by a law of 1844; operations were governed by a law of 1847.
