Summary:
This series from the Comptroller's Office consists of monthly measurements of the water depth in canals taken every four miles on their sections, or at one point if a section was less than two miles long. The report includes measurement location, actual depth of water by measure, and an affidavit that the data are correct. The series is fragmentary. Also included is a table of soundings on the entire canal between Buffalo and Troy.

Scope and Content Note

Measurements of the depth of water in the canals were taken monthly by the superintendents of repairs every four miles on their sections, or at one point if a section was less than two miles long. The report gives location of measurement and actual depth of water by measure. It includes an affidavit that the data are correct. The series is fragmentary; information for 1860 and 1862 only is present.

Also found with the series is a table of soundings on the entire canal between Buffalo and Troy, dated July 6, 1860.
