Administrative History
The Hudson River Regulating District was formed according to Chapter 662 of the Laws of 1915 to construct, maintain, and operate reservoirs within the drainage area of the Hudson River above the Albany-Greene County line, to regulate the flow of streams in the district. It was created on August 2, 1922 and became active on November 9, 1922.
In 1924, pursuant to Section 450 of the Conservation Law, the board of the Hudson River Regulating District determined that the Sacandaga Reservoir should be constructed as part of a plan to regulate the Hudson River and it's principal tributaries. In 1925 it approved the apportionment of the $9 million cost (assessed against the municipalities, corporations, and individuals to benefit from the resource) and authorized payment in forty annual installments.
