Scope and Content Note
This series consists of bonds printed on forms which legally bind the person named to the People of New York State for a specified sum of money. The records were generated pursuant to a law of 1803 entitled "An Act for the Sale of the Unappropriated Lands, and for other Purposes".
The bonds provide the name of the purchaser, city or town of residence, the amount of money for which the purchaser is liable, date when the bond was executed, the name of the tract of land, lot number purchased, and the sum of money for which the purchaser has to make six equal payments in each successive year after the date of the bond. The bond is signed by the purchaser and witnessed by two other people. The series contains bonds for various tracts of land throughout New York State.
