Scope and Content Note

This journal was kept by the Treasurer for receipts and expenditures of the state.

On debit side are entered: date; receipt number; source of monies (taxes, e.g. quit rent, vendue duty, mortgages, etc.); and amount. On credit side are entered: date; check and warrant numbers; payee (members of the legislature, other state and local officials, and various other creditors of the state); and amount. Entries are chronological and are totalled and balanced monthly. First volume covers years 1802-1907 (Treasurer Abraham G. Lansing); and second covers years 1808-1812 (Treasurer David Thomas).
