Scope and Content Note

This volume lists information on bonds and the surety companies which guarantee them. The first several pages provide a numerical listing of the relevant bonds with the following information: bond number; name of the surety company; individual or depository; amount; and date filed. There is also a column of unidentified information which primarily lists the names of hospitals, prisons, institutions, and state agencies.

The remainder of the volume arranges the original list alphabetically by name of individual or depository. The information included in this section is: department number; name of individual or depository; official title; department or institution; fund covered; amount of bond; rate of interest; name of surety; date executed; surety company number; date filed; certificate of release issued; and remarks.

The revised statutes of 1909, the Insurance Law, Article 5, Section 1, provides an act relating to guarantors and sureties. This section, however, does not specifically indicate the role of the Comptroller relative to these items, and it is unclear why the Comptroller came to record this information.
