This series consists of applications that are sworn statements, giving name of applicant, date, parcel(s) description(s), and appraised value(s), with Treasurer's office payment receipts attached. Most applications are for the purchase of "Prison Lands" in the Old Military Tract in Franklin County. Also included are minutes of the Commissioners of the Land Office; miscellaneous deeds with related documents; and petition of John B. Van Allen for sale of certain parcels in Albany, with search and abstract.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of applications which are sworn statements giving name of applicant, date, description of parcel(s), and appraised value; attached are receipts from Treasurer's office for payment.

Most of the applications are for the purchase of "Prison Lands" in the Old Military Tract in Franklin County, 1887-1891. Applicants were required to be actual settlers on land from which all the timber had been removed. There are also: printed minutes of the Commissioners of the Land Office, 1893-1894, at which sales of state land were authorized; copies of miscellaneous deeds from the state, with related documents; and petition of John B. Van Allen for sale of certain parcels in Albany, with search and abstract, 1912. Documents are endorsed.
