Administrative History
The statements of court and trust funds were probably drawn up pursuant to Chapter 483 of Laws of 1885, which authorized surrogates to appoint appraisers of estates for purposes of taxation. Returns of appraisals were made by the treasurer of each county or the comptroller of New York County to the State Comptroller.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of paper-bound volumes containing summary statements of various court and trust funds deposited in banks in New York City. Each entry gives citation to court order, name of action or matter, initial and final balances in account, payments, interest, and deposits for each year, and remarks. Each volume lists accounts in an individual bank or trust company, which is named on the cover with inclusive dates.
