Administrative History
Laws of 1826, Chapter 360 specified the duties and responsibilities of the toll collectors in making financial reports to the comptroller, but neither this law nor any other refers specifically to leases of other offices.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of leases for toll collectors' offices. It describes the premises leased, gives the terms of payment, and includes the signatures of the lessor and a witness. Location of office, name of collector, date of lease, and annual rent are given on the back. Beginning in 1858 the information was compiled on a specific printed form. There are apparently many gaps in the series.
