Summary:
This series consists of brief, preliminary records providing background information on new inmates that were compiled before the full record was entered in the Admission Registers (series A1970). Information includes admission date; name; age; name and relationship of guardian; address; city and county from which committed; offense or other reason for commitment; time spent in jail before commitment; and court from which committed.

Scope and Content Note

These brief, preliminary records providing background information on new inmates were compiled before the full record was entered in the Admission Registers (series A1970).

The books provide the following information: admission date; name; age; name and relationship of guardian ('F' for father, 'M' for mother, uncle, foster father, etc.); address; city and county from which committed (usually same as city of residence); offense or other reason for commitment (e.g. petit larceny, "incorrigible," "without home or guardianship."); amount of time spent in jail before commitment; court from which committed.

Custodial History

The Department of Social Welfare placed these records on loan to the Syracuse University Library from 1960-1977.
