Scope and Content Note

This series consists of five disbound volumes of photographs and lithographs of numerous state charitable institutions such as asylums, hospitals, dispensaries and orphanages. The volumes contain mostly building exterior views, with occasional floor plans and building interior views. Most are captioned with the name and location of the institution.

Views of an institution may appear in more than one volume. A few of the captioned views are dated 1892. One volume is dated 1867, but contains items dated as late as 1903.
