Administrative History
Emergency nursery schools were established upstate in February 1934 under the Civil Works Administration and continued with Temporary Emergency Relief Administration funds from April 1934 to December 1935. At that time the project was transferred to the Works Progress Administration. Emergency parent education classes were conducted in conjunction with many of these nursery schools. The Education Department also obtained a number of part time clerical and other employees with TERA funding beginning in 1933.
Scope and Content Note
These records consist of weekly payroll sheets giving: employee's name; sex; occupation; hours worked; wage rate; total earnings; and sometimes case number.
Attached to each payroll sheet are individual employee's time sheets, signed by the local supervisor certifying the time claimed. These records, dating March-December 1935, are from TERA projects in Albany, Buffalo, Ithaca, Little Falls, Niagara Falls, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady City, and St. Lawrence County. Included are the Emergency Nursery School Project and part-time Education Department clerical staff hired on TERA funds to work in Albany.
