Scope and Content Note

This series contains rough notes and lists providing agents with information on the recording and coding of business establishments and occupations.

These memo notebooks and 8 1/2" x 11" sheets are handwritten and typed lists of the following: establishments--code number, name, address or city, and number of various card forms completed or which card forms completed for each establishment; and occupations--industry (e.g. department stores), general type of work (e.g. office; stock and sales), occupations under each general type of work (e.g. under office: stenographer, bookkeeper, etc.), and sometimes, occupation code numbers (added to Employee Background and Wage Data Cards, forms 2 and 2A, series A3000, General Wage Investigation Data Cards).

The series also contains two drafts of a report listing and describing each process in candy manufacturing, noting if the work was done by men or women and the wages paid for each type of work. There is also a sheet instructing agents on constructing code numbers for upstate establishments.
