Scope and Content Note

Series consists of county maps compiled by the Joint Legislative Committee on the State Education System showing school districts.

The maps consist of sections of topographical maps glued to backing sheets. Each map is marked with school district boundaries and numbers as of 1 July 1943. Symbols on the maps indicate the type of school district (Common, Union Free, or Central); whether it contains high, elementary, or special schools; and if consolidated, partially consolidated, operating, closed, or contracting with another district. On each map is a certificate of accuracy signed by the district superintendents of schools in the county. The second roll of maps includes two introductory sheets.

A3043-15: This accretion consists of two very large volumes containing same-size positive photostat reproductions of maps in the original accession. One of the two volumes contains no annotations. The other volume contains additional information, indicating in red ink shading the boundaries of school districts centralized or consolidated after the date of the original atlas (1943) up to and including 1969. In some locations the dates of such school district changes are indicated in black india ink.
