Scope and Content Note
This series contains resolutions issued by the War Council (and its predecessor, the Council of Defense) as part of its mandate to coordinate war time needs.
Subseries 1, Council of Defense Resolutions: This subseries contains thirty-five resolutions signed by the Council of Defense's Executive Secretary and Counsel Thomas L.J. Corcoran. The resolutions cover a range of topics including: appointments to council offices; the creation of special committees; budget requests to the legislature; allocation of funds to various programs; civil defense issues (including National Guard matters); support for measures which would allow children to miss school during harvest seasons; and the closing of certain streets near defense industries.
Subseries 2, War Council Resolutions: This subseries contains 475 resolutions signed by the War Council's Executive Secretary. The resolutions proclaim actions taken by the War Council or other state agencies as part of the war effort. Topics include: adoption of orders; amendments to resolutions; appointments to War Council offices; approval of salary schedules; approval of new positions on council committees; authorization of funds for administration of new and existing war programs; authorization to post signs around defense industries and close streets near these industries; establishment of War Council offices (war training, fire mobilization, state war transportation); resignations; and rescindment of resolutions.
