Scope and Content Note

Manuscript draft of the State Historian's annual report to the legislature for the year April 1, 1903 - March 31, 1904, and two typescripts, apparently intended as supplements to the report.

The two typescripts, neither of which was printed, are "Mexican War Papers" and a selection of transcribed correspondence of the State Historian. The "Mexican War Papers" consist of transcribed reports of the adjutant general, governor, U.S. secretary of war, and officers of U.S. Volunteers from New York. They provide information on the organization and service of New York units in the war with Mexico, 1846-1848. The other typescript contains extracts of letters to and from the State Historian. These letters concern genealogical questions (especially relating to service in the Revolution), as well as colonial, state, and local history.
