Summary:
This series consists of an index listing employees hired for construction of the new State Capitol. Information includes employee's name; occupation; wage rate; an unidentified alphanumeric code, possibly a wage or job classification code; and remarks pertaining to the existence of an employee sponsor. For some workers, the remarks areas includes comments on the employee's personal character, work habits, physical abilities and appearance, or familial responsibilities.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of a bound index listing employees hired for construction of the new State Capitol. It lists each employee's name; occupation; wage rate; an unidentified alphanumeric code, possibly a wage or job classification code; and remarks pertaining to the existence of an employee sponsor. The remarks areas for some workers also contain comments which describe or criticize the employee's personal character, work habits, physical abilities and appearance, or familial responsibilities (e.g., "fat man" [p. 189]; "big and strong but lazy" [p. 239]; "has very large family" [p. 163]).
