Scope and Content Note
This series consists of two daily registers of correspondence received by the State Board of Health and one volume that serves as a partial name index to the registers. Registers list name, title (of medical professionals), and place of residence or location of business of persons from whom correspondence was received each day. Registers list the same categories of information regarding letters that were filed on a given day. Occasional notes appear in the margins indicating number of notices sent to druggists, presidents of villages, supervisors of towns, or local boards of health on a given day. In general, the subject of specific correspondence or notices is not indicated. However, the 1892 register includes a list of specific letters received in 1892 and 1893 that pertain to cases of tuberculosis in cows. The name index volume was never completed to reflect all correspondence entered in the 1893 register.
Acquisition Information
The index volume in this series was transferred to the State Archives by the State Library and accessioned in 1978. The registers were transferred by the Department of Health and accessioned in 2013.
