Scope and Content Note

This volume of printed maps was produced from data collected during a highway planning survey of 1940-1949.

The volume contains maps for all counties except the five counties in New York City (Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, New York). The maps show: county name; name of adjacent counties; city and town names; names or numbers of major federal, state, or county routes; local routes; bridges and tunnels; railroads; waterways; airports; homes, public buildings, and other structures along the routes; sites such as oil wells, gas tanks, mine shafts, parks, camps, and historic sites; and inserts showing some cities in slightly more detail. The front page of the volume provides a state map showing the counties, a list of the counties, a list of types of information in the maps and the sources of the information, and the map scales.
