Summary:
This volume records the names of War of 1812 veterans (H-Z only) from New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia who received federal bounty land grants in Illinois for their military service. It also contains a list of claims filed in response to the Revolution Claims Act of February 3, 1853 (U.S. 10 Stat. 154) for eight New York counties.

Scope and Content Note

This volume records the names of War of 1812 veterans (H-Z only) from New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia who received federal bounty land grants in Illinois for their military service. Each entry provides: volume and page number (reference unknown); four or five digit number (reference unknown); date of patent; soldier's name; rank; unit/regiment (includes last name of commanding officer and number of regiment); type of unit (e.g. artillery, infantry, rifle, dragoon); code (unexplained) indicating location of lands patented; name and residence of person receiving patent; and date of receipt.

At the end of the volume is a list of claims filed in response to the Revolution Claims Act of February 3, 1853 (U.S. 10 Stat. 154) for the counties of Fulton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oswego, Oneida, Onondaga, Schenectady, and Saratoga. Information consists of widow's name, soldier's name, amount of claim, and name of town. There is also a list of half-pay officers who served in the Revolution from the counties of Herkimer, Montgomery, and Onondaga.
