Administrative History
Fines could be levied against militiamen for a variety of delinquent behaviors (Rev. Stat. 1829, Part I, Ch. X, Title VII), among them: not appearing at a regimental parade or place of rendezvous when summoned; disobeying orders of a superior officer; leaving ranks without permission; neglecting or refusing to obey any order or warrant; and appearing for duty without being properly armed and equipped. The law dictated the maximum amount of fine for each action.
Scope and Content Note
This brief series of four pages documents individuals who were assessed fines for delinquent behavior while in the New York State Militia. The information, presented in tabular form, consists of: name of delinquent; county; rank and regiment; officer ordering court; amount of fine; date of fine; when sent; to whom sent; residence; if collected or not; and when collected/remarks.
